RCN Accredited Immediate Life Support (ILS) Training

This 1-day Immediate Life Support (ILS) will give you the skills to act as a first responder in an emergency, prior to the arrival of an ambulance/ cardiac arrest team.

This course expands on existing knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) and teaches airway management skills, ECG recognition and rapid, safe defibrillation, using an AED or a manual defibrillator.

The training day contains a blend of theory + immersive practical sessions with real-life scenarios and state of the art Resuscitation equipment. Course content is:

• Mapped to 2021 Resuscitation Council UK guidelines
• Fully accredited by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
• Certified by the CPD Standards Office

Certificates are issued on the same day as the course is completed and are accepted by UK employers + organisations!

• Ethical + Legal Considerations
• Anaphylaxis
• Pregnancy
• Reversible Factors
• CAS / Skills stations
• The ABCDE Approach
• Recording patient observations and early warning scores
• Care of the patient with tracheostomy or laryngectomy
• ReSPECT/ ‘do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation’ (DNACPR) orders

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this course you will understand: -

• The importance of early recognition and escalation of the deteriorating patient
• The reasons someone may have deteriorating health needs
• Complications with airway, breathing and circulation that can cause cardiac arrest
• The ABCDE approach to assess and treat critically ill patients
• The Ethical considerations regarding decisions about CPR
• The ReSPECT process and DNACPR
• Reversible factors
• Normal cardiac rhythm
• Medical emergencies
• The causes and prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest
• The skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (AED) and simple airway manoeuvres
• How to utilise non-technical skills to facilitate initial leadership and effective team membership

RCN ACCREDITATION

This Immediate Life Support (ILS) course has been assessed and accredited by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) providing all registered healthcare professionals with: -

• A compact, face to face theory and practical course using simulation equipment delivered by a specialist trainer
• The opportunity to observe best practice demonstrations, practice and perfect techniques and achieve initial skills competency
• Small group sizes providing lots of occasions for one-to-one teaching during the practical session
• A structured skills assessment sign-off sheet allowing delegates to continue gaining competencies on the return to the workplace.
