COURSE CONTENT
  • Clinical history taking and recording
  • Mechanism of injury general principles of musculoskeletal trauma
  • Assessment of injury look, feel move examination Indications for radiography
  • Musculo-skeletal injury and management
  • Review of anatomy and physiology and healing of bone and soft connective tissue
  • Shoulder and upper limb: - Hip and lower limb
  • Management of common fractures
  • Head, neck and back: - Level of consciousness: GCS, NICE (SIGN in Scotland) head injury guidelines
  • Ophthalmic and ENT common presenting conditions and their management
  • Minor wounds and burns
  • Review of anatomy: wound closure, healing and appropriate dressings
  • Legal and professional responsibility
  • Develop look and feel assessment skills with an understanding of mechanism of injury
AIMS / OUTCOMES
  • Develop confidence in decision making skills and explore current best practice
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of current patient management rationale and how to apply this to the participants own clinical setting
