• Assess the individual’s airway, breathing and circulation and level of consciousness 
• Understand the effects of limb / facial weakness and the consequences that this may have for a person with a stroke 
• Knowledge and skills required to enable health and social care staff to move and handle individuals safely and promote awareness of their own abilities and limitations 
• Understand the effect that a stroke may have on a person’s ability to carry out activities of daily living.
