Simply First Aid
Delivery Method: Blended

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage as laid out in the Practical Guidance document, and helps to prepare you in dealing with the devastating sudden cardiac arrest that can occur.

This qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations, illnesses, injuries and emergencies.

The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of:

  • Paediatric first aid situations
  • Paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies

Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in situations that can arise when looking after children.

Intended audience

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with:

  • An emergency situation
  • Chronic or sudden paediatric illness
  • Paediatric injury

Note: This qualification fulfils Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).

Structure of the qualification

This qualification comprises 2 mandatory units with a total value of 3 credits and 22 guided learning hours (GLH)*.

*GLH are a guide to the estimated hours an average Learner would study to gain the unit. This does not have to be face-to-face instructional time and can include self-directed study at home, such as reading course hand outs and further self-study.

All practical and written assessments must be passed to gain the qualification.
