Safeguarding Adults Level 1 & 2

This safeguarding bundle includes safeguarding adults at level 1 and safeguarding adults level 2, with the courses designed to be completed in sequence. The courses use a number of real-world scenarios across a range of healthcare settings and roles to stimulate discussion and reflection on how individual staff should consider safeguarding in their role. Safeguarding adults legislation is updated regularly and this session will be kept up to date in this regard.

Safeguarding adults level 1 & level 2 overview:

  • Safeguarding adults level 1: This Safeguarding Adults eLearning courses provides staff in all roles within healthcare with an introduction to the key concepts and principles of safeguarding adults.
  • Safeguarding adults level 2: This session provides staff who are the designated safeguarding lead in their organisation and/or designated referrer with comprehensive guidance on how to respond and act to potential and actual safeguarding issues.

What will learners get out of it?

Safeguarding adults level 1 will allow you to:

  • Define the term ‘safeguarding adults’
  • Understand the circumstances which may cause adults to be at risk of abuse
  • Identify and describe the different types of abuse that may effect adults who need care and support
  • Explain what is meant by the terms 'radicalisation' and 'extremism' and describe how an adult may be drawn into extremist activities
  • Explain how you can work towards preventing abuse by promoting dignity and well-being through your own practice
  • Describe how you can work in a person-centred and empowering way with adults
  • Explain how to raise concerns where abuse of an adult is suspected within, or outside, your organisation, and the roles that different organisations play
  • Discuss the key legislation and the role of policies and procedures relating to safeguarding adults in your own organisation

Safeguarding adults level 2 will allow you to

  • Describe how to apply local and national policy and procedural frameworks when undertaking safeguarding activity
  • Name and explain what legislation is relevant to undertaking safeguarding activity
  • Describe how you could support people and their carers to understand safeguarding issues to maximise their decision making
  • Explain the safeguarding adults enquiry process
  • Explain how to respond to safeguarding alerts and make referrals
  • Identify and reduce potential and actual risks after disclosure or an allegation has been made
  • Describe how you can support people to keep themselves safe
  • Explain the immediate steps you should take when you become aware of potential abuse
  • Discuss and develop protective strategies for those who don’t give consent
  • Explain the purpose of safeguarding adults investigations and be able to apply the duties and tasks involved
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up to date records
  • Describe how to preserve forensic and other evidence
  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the different agencies involved in investigating allegations of abuse

Who is this course for?

Safeguarding adults level 1 is for all staff including non-clinical managers and staff working in health care settings.

Safeguarding adults level 2 is for designated safeguarding leads and/or designated referrers

Assessment:

The session is followed by a multiple choice assessment designed to test learners' understanding of the course. Learning progress and test results can be tracked by managers for internal development and learners can keep a certificate of completion for CPD.

This course was designed with safeguarding specialists in the health sector. This course meets the outcomes for level 1 and 2 of the Core Skills framework dependent on your degree of contact with adults
