Aims:
To recognise and be able to provide basic life support and automated external defibrillation to a casualty collapsed with a cardiac arrest.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this training session the candidate must be able to:
Demonstrate effective basic life support skills
Safely attach and operate an automated external defibrillator
Identify and discuss the safety issues surrounding defibrillation
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of routine maintenance of equipment and record keeping
Understand the importance of recording and reporting any cardiac
Be able to give a definition of anaphylaxis and demonstrate correct management of a casualty suffering from anaphylaxis
