Food Safety Awareness in Catering (CIEH Level 1 Award )

A nationally recognised course that would benefit anyone who is working in a situation where there is food. The course focusses on the information needed before starting work in a food environment or as a part of induction. Ideal for healthcare staff who do not have a role in preparing food but who need to have a basic knowledge of food hygiene in order to ensure that they are able to work safely. Particularly useful if you are in a role where you are required to serve ready prepared food e.g.Ward Housekeepers and Care Home Assistants.

The course will enable you to:

  • Understand the importance of keeping yourself clean and hygienic when handling food
  • Understand the importance of keeping food free from contamination

The course includes:

  • The consequences of poor food hygiene practices and benefits of good standards
  • Common hazards to food safety
  • Requirements of good personal hygiene
  • The common symptoms of food poisoning
  • The method of thorough hand washing
  • How to report illnesses
  • How to keep food free from contamination
  • How to keep the work area clean and contamination free
  • How food should be stored safely
  • How to report any incidents that may put the safety of food at risk
  • The hazards associated with skin infections
  • The importance of protective equipment and clothing
  • The importance of following instructions while using cleaning agents
  • The importance of reporting signs of pest infestation

So candidates can achieve the Level 1 Awareness in Catering Level 1 accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the course cost includes an assessment which is a short test based on the information given in the session. The test contains 15 questions which need to be completed within 30 minutes under exam conditions. In order to pass candidates need to achieve 10 or more correct answers.
