Course Delivery & Duration

This diabetes training course uses our proven and popular combination of self study and face to face workshops. Six months of self-directed study is facilitated by a distance learning pack which concludes with two days of compulsory workshops. Attendance at the revision day is optional.
Students use our brand new electronic distance learning pack. This will give a more interactive learning experience, but students who prefer a paper pack may purchase one at a small additional cost.

This course is available as accredited by Teesside University or CPD Certified. On the accredited course, you will need to write a case study as part of your assessment.

Outline Content

This six month multi-professional diabetes training course focuses upon the assessment and management of the individual with diabetes. Emphasis is placed upon the health needs of the individual, health promotion and self-empowerment. This module is aimed at health care professional (doctors, nurses, dieticians, podiatrists and pharmacists) who have a role in the delivery and management of care for those clients and their families experiencing diabetes and who wish to respond more effectively to the health needs of their clients. Upon completion of the course the participant will be able to suggest, initiate and vary treatment to individual needs. The content covers screening, diagnosis, management of diabetes and micro-and macro-vascular complications.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the disease processes in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Critically analyse the relationship between risk factors and the complications of diabetes
  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge and awareness of the psychological and physical management and care of a person with diabetes
  • Analyse, apply and interpret evidence from a range of sources to underpin the care and management of diabetes
  • Demonstrate intellectual flexibility in the application of relevant theory to the management of diabetes
  • Recognise and initiate screening, diagnostic and assessment skills in relation to people with diabetes
  • Apply, develop and critically analyse care strategies to promote the health and well being of the person with diabetes in primary care
  • Explore and modify care delivery processes in response to the assessment of people with diabetes
  • Critically analyse the importance of a multi-professional approach to care and reflect systematically on their own role within such a team
  • Demonstrate effective writing skills appropriate to level 5.

Assessment

One hour unseen examination comprising of True/False statements based on the content of the module. The accredited course also requires the completion of a 4000 word case study.

Primary Care Training Centre can also create this course for you on arrangement either at your workplace or at one of their locations.

If there are sufficient students (usually 20-24 students), our tutors can come to you at a big saving in time as well as travel and accommodation costs for the students. We call these courses/study days delivered in your area Satellites.
