This women's health training course is available via our proven and popular combination of self study and face to face workshops, in which six months of self-directed study is facilitated by a distance learning pack and concludes with two days of compulsory workshops. Attendance at a mid-course study session is optional. Alternatively, we offer this course in a purely online format. Using our electronic distance learning pack you will complete the course over the same six months and sit an online exam at the end, with no need to attend the training centre. Mentor support will be available throughout if required.

Outline Content

This six month women's health training course is designed to facilitate practitioners to acquire further knowledge of women’s health and apply this to the development of personal practice within their working environment, and to enable practitioners to further develop knowledge required to deliver safe holistic care in the context of women’s health. The module focuses on the management of sexual health, contraception, breast and cervical screening, continence and menopause and the services available to support this. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the health needs of the individual, health promotion and empowerment of the woman and on multi-professional collaboration.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowl3edge of altered physiology related to an aspect of women’s health.
  • Evaluate the principles underpinning approaches to assessment and management of different aspects of women’s health.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of women’s health issues including sexual health, contraception, screening, continence and the menopause.
  • Synthesise, appraise and evaluate evidence from a range of sources to underpin the care and management of women’s health.
  • Demonstrate intellectual flexibility in the application of relevant theory to the management of women’s health.
  • Evaluate information obtained during patient assessment that will identify women at risk of female-related disorders.
  • Develop and evaluate health care strategies appropriate to the management of women’s health.
  • Ensure all interventions are underpinned by the ethical and legal frameworks which support professional practice
  • Plan, manage and evaluate an appropriate prescription of care according to the individual women’s health needs.
