This programme provides advice and guidance for managers and mentors. Here's what you'll get:

  • One day workshop or choose to attend via webinars
  • A downloadable resource pack of FAQs and template contracts.
  • Template procedures & policies to help you recruit and manage an apprentice.

If you want to develop a strong awareness of the facts, rather than the myths, and learn about the practical actions you need to take and pitfalls you need to avoid when taking on an apprentice, this is the programme for you!

What You Will Learn

  • Session 1: Advice and Guidance for managers
  • Session 2: Introduction to Apprenticeships

You will learn the practical actions you can take to ensure that each apprentice’s programme equips them for a future role within your organisation, ensuring that they safe, supported, well-managed/mentored and develop the skills and expertise that will make a positive contribution to your business.

1) Advice and Guidance for Managers:

The aim of this session is to provide sector specific advice and guidance on how apprenticeships work for experienced and inexperienced employers


  • Identify how to overcome fears associated with employing an apprentice in the workplace
  • Identify the benefits and limitations of employing an apprentice
  • Identify key legislation around employing an apprentice
  • Identify how to effectively market, select and recruit an apprentice
  • Understand how to work in partnership with your training provider to deliver an apprenticeship programme

2) Introduction to Apprenticeships:

The aim of this session is to provide organisations an introduction to apprenticeships and the main requirements of hosting an apprentice.


  • Understand and identity the main elements within an apprenticeship
  • Understand how to market an apprenticeship vacancy
  • Identify shortlisting techniques
  • Understand how to develop a job specification
  • Understand the interview process
  • Understand how the apprenticeship programme and elements within it can be delivered
  • Understand the myths around apprenticeship programmes

3) Working with Young People

The aim of this session is to provide employers with up to date and relevant information relating to working with young people in their workplace


  • Understand the responsibility of organisations to safeguard and protect young people in the workplace
  • Understand the barriers and benefits of working with a young person in the workplace
  • Understand the main roles and responsibilities of the employer, workplace mentor and apprentice
  • Develop an action plan to outline what your workplace needs to ensure it is apprentice friendly

Programme participants will be able to download a resource pack of FAQs and editable template contracts and procedures/policies to save you time and help you recruit and manage an apprentice within your organisation. These include:
