This course conforms to national standards NSCSP 2016.This course is a requirement for any registered health professional who wishes to be trained in taking cervical samples. PDI is a Public Health England (south and southwest) approved training provider, so you can be assured that the course is delivered to the required standard. We have vast experience in providing sample taker training and have done so for 16 years with consistent excellent evaluations. Our foundation course is accredited by the RCN. it is also possible to APEL this course for 20 credits at level 6 through Plymouth University through an additional piece of academic work that will be supervised by PDI.

We provide sample taker training across the whole of Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Wessex.

This course is one day face to face classroom based and cover the practical components and recaps on the theory, also included are other key speakers from the laboratory, colposcopy, learning disabilities teams and sexual health as well as a practical training session. This takes place after the completion of our online theoretical training, which consists of videos, presentations and manuals to work through and pass end of unit quizzes for each subject. Your end theory assessment will be to complete a number of Patient Scenarios which will be marked by our clinical team. This is followed by six months in house practical training under supervision and ongoing support. An external assessor visits on two occasions and the cost of the assessor’s visits is included in the course fee. Samples are audited via close liaison with the local laboratories .

PDI has provided sample taker training both face to face for the last 16 years and has developed and provided its own online update training programme since 2009.
