Venepuncture training and phlebotomy training course

As with all of our courses, our venepuncture and phlebotomy training is delivered by medical professionals with many years of on-the-job experience, giving you access to experts who can guide you through the theoretical and practical elements of this essential healthcare skill, and answer any questions that may arise during your training.

Venepuncture and phlebotomy go hand-in hand, so our courses cover both the puncturing of a vein (venepuncture) and the process of drawing blood from the venepuncture site (phlebotomy). Professional training is essential for healthcare staff who are required to take blood samples from patients and service-users in order to diagnose or monitor medical conditions. Our course is aimed at healthcare professionals who wish to learn venepuncture and phlebotomy as a new skill, or for staff who have previously trained but require a refresher course to update their knowledge in line with the latest best practice guidelines.

What’s covered on our phlebotomy and venepuncture training course?

As an invasive procedure, healthcare staff must be able to conduct their sample taking with accuracy, skill and confidence. In order to prepare delegates for ongoing workplace assessments, they will be given the opportunity to practice their knowledge on anatomically correct synthetic arms. The training course syllabus covers:

• Venepuncture and phlebotomy - overview and understanding
• Service-user identification
• Service-user consent
• Universal precautions
• Site selection
• Tourniquet procedure
• Post venepuncture and phlebotomy care
• Potential problems and their solutions
• Labelling
• Practical venepuncture and phlebotomy instruction with manikin arms

Duration

3-6 hours, at a time and location suited for you.

Assessment and certification

The course process consists of continual assessment by the course tutor, case studies, practical scenarios, OSCE's and workbook completion. Guardian Angels Training will provide the necessary competency proformas required to ensure safe and evidenced-based clinical practice following completion of our training course, allowing the registered provider to ensure mandatory competency assessments are completed within the workplace by a nominated mentor/supervisor.
