Tissue viability training and wound care courses

Here at Guardian Angels, our firsthand experience of working in medical, clinical and care settings has taught us that every organisation has different requirements, so we tailor our tissue viability training and wound care courses to suit your exact needs.

During their everyday duties, social and healthcare workers will find themselves in contact with patients or service-users with wounds that need attending to. These may be minor or moderate and caused by a variety of different reasons.

Our wound care and tissue viability training is delivered by NHS tissue viability nurse specialists, and aimed at delegates with some existing, basic knowledge in the subject, who wish to improve their skills and knowledge of wound types, pressure sores and skin deterioration, assessment, treatment, monitoring, recording and much more.

What do our wound care and tissue viability training courses cover?

We offer a range of different courses in this field, from basic to advanced, developing a syllabus to meet your needs. In addition to our wound care courses and tissue viability training, we can also offer other topics such as leg ulcer management and pressure area care for more specific requirements.

Due to the variation in content, the syllabus for each course varies, but as a general guide, delegates can expect to learn:

  • Subject knowledge assessment
  • Professional, legal and ethical issues
  • Wound etiology
  • Wound types
  • Wound phases/healing
  • Factors affecting healing
  • Dressing types and selection
  • Summary and evaluation

Course duration

Our tissue viability training and wound care courses run between 3 and 18 hours, over 1 to 3 days, depending on your chosen content.

Assessment and certification

The courses consist of continual assessment by the course tutor, case studies, practical scenarios, OSCE's and workbook completion. Following the course, delegates must obtain appropriate mentor supervision to support their learning and its practical workplace application.

Guardian Angels Training will provide the necessary competency proformas required to ensure safe and evidenced-based clinical practice, allowing the registered provider to ensure mandatory competency assessments are completed correctly.

If you need further advice regarding competency assessments or if you would like our registered nurse trainers to provide onsite competency assessments, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Upon successful completion of our wound care and tissue viability courses, you’ll receive a certificate valid for 2 years from issue.

Please note: training is only available to employers such as...

  • NHS Trusts
  • CCGs

...that can provide training facilities onsite for groups of 4 - 12 delegates per training session.
