ECG Reading and Basic Interpretation


This electrocardiogram (ECG) training course ensures delegates have the required skills, knowledge and experience to administer ECG investigations and provides an introduction to interpreting the results. Healthcare professionals including nurses and doctors who are expected to administer ECGs as part of their daily responsibilities will benefit from undertaking this particular training course. Delegates will participate in practical demonstrations and theoretical workshops to improve their skills in working with a 12 lead ECG and beginning to interpret the results.

Guardian Angels Training will provide the necessary competency proformas required to ensure safe and evidenced-based clinical practice following completion of our training courses. This will then allow the Registered Provider to ensure mandatory competency assessments are completed within the workplace by a nominated mentor/supervisor.

Learning Outcomes

After this training course delegates will be able to:

  2. Discuss the relevant legal, professional and ethical issues
  3. List the steps involved in taking an ECG reading
  4. Practice taking an ECG reading
  5. Summarise the acute emergencies
  6. Explain how to identify acute emergencies
  7. Describe the need to seek expert interpretation timely


This course lasts approximately 6 hours.


Delegates will be issued with certificates of compliance valid for a period of 2 year. Nurses can evidence 6 hours of participatory learning for their NMC Revalidation.

This training course is only available to employers (NHS Trusts, CCG's, Care Providers, Independent Hospitals) that are able to provide onsite training facilities for groups of 4 - 12 delegates per training session.
