Stoma care training for healthcare professionals

For healthcare workers and nurses dealing with patients and service-users post stoma surgery, our stoma care training course offers the knowledge and skills required to ensure the site is kept clean and hygienic. Our stoma training gives an in-depth insight into the use and types of stomas, potential risks, management of diet and how to effectively care for patients. We look at each type of stoma:

  • Colostomy
  • Ileostomy
  • Urostomy

Patients and service-users may have had stoma surgery for a number of different reasons, such as:

  • Cancer of the colon and bladder
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Crohn’s disease

As the waste is passed from the body via the stoma, it’s collected in a bag that will need changing/draining periodically. They can be permanent, or temporary, and even if the patient is not resident, they may need assistance with its care.
