Comprehensive clinical observation training

Patient observation is an everyday task for healthcare workers, and our clinical observation training course will ensure that your staff have the skills and knowledge required to make accurate inspections of individuals in their care, and subsequently document and report their findings.

Clinical observations ensure that treatment plans are up-to-date and correctly administered, and allow healthcare staff to carry out timely and regular bed-side assessments.

What does our clinical observation training course cover?

Taking accurate assessments of patients’ vital signs, monitoring any changes, taking samples and meeting health and safety compliance requirements are essential proficiencies for any healthcare worker. Our course provides all of the relevant training to cover every element of key clinical observations and related topics, such as:

• What is an observation and why are they important?
• Clinical observations: pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturations, blood glucose, neurological
• Urinalysis and obtaining samples - catheter, continent and incontinent person
• Analysing behaviour
• Developing patterns
• Infection control including hand washing technique
• Normal parameters for patients and the management of unstable results
• Accountability
• Consent and confidentiality
• Record keeping and reporting
• Summary and evaluation

Upon completion of the patient observation training course, graduates will have the capacity and capability to:

• Outline different types of clinical observations and bed-side assessment methods
• Explain the relevant legal, professional and ethical issues
• Demonstrate the correct and safe practice of a range of clinical observations
• Describe the actions to be taken following clinical observations being noted
• Explain when to seek further help or assistance

Assessment and certification

The course process consists of continual assessment by the course tutor, case studies, practical scenarios, OSCE's and workbook completion. Guardian Angels Training will provide the necessary competency proformas required to ensure safe and evidenced-based clinical practice following completion of our training course, allowing the registered provider to ensure mandatory competency assessments are completed within the workplace by a nominated mentor/supervisor.
