Aims

This observation training course aims to help staff increase their healthcare knowledge through teaching them how to take clinical observations and accurately document and report the findings.


Clinical Observation Training Course Summary:

  • Clinical Observations included;
    • pulse
    • blood pressure (manual and with a machine)
    • respiration rate
    • temperature (axillary, oral, tympanic)
    • oxygen saturation
    • blood glucose
    • neurological observations
  • Urinalysis and how to obtain samples – catheter, continent and incontinent person
  • Infection Control and Hand Washing Technique
  • Normal Parameters for Individuals and the Management of Deranged Results
  • Accountability, Consent and Confidentiality, and Record Keeping


Learning Outcomes

After this training course delegates will be able to:

  1. Outline the types of clinical observations and bed-side assessment methods
  2. Explain the legal, professional and ethical issues relevant
  3. Demonstrate the correct and safe practice of a range of clinical observations
  4. Describe the actions to be taken following a clinical observation being noted
  5. Explain when to seek help

Duration

This course lasts approximately 4 hours.

Certification

Delegates will be issued with certificates of attendance valid for a period of 2 year.
