Gastrostomy Care

Aims

This Gastrostomy Care, Feeding and Management training course aims to familiarise students with the reason and methods of Gastrostomy devices. A vital course for any staff who come into contact regularly with service users who utilise a Gastrostomy. Our training will raise awareness and familiarise staff with the various types of Gastrostomy devices, feeding and medication administration techniques including the use of enteral pump devices, ensuring staff have sufficient knowledge to work safely with them.

Please note: This Gastrostomy training course includes a practical session – we will supply a enteral pump device and all associated equipment for staff to use, however if you have a specific machine you require training on you will need to provide access to it for the duration of the training course.

Learning Outcomes

On completion delegates will be able to demonstrate much improved knowledge of Gastrostomy care, feeding and medication administration. Delegates will understand the common causes of requiring a Gastrostomy device and how to safely and effectively care for those who have one. Delegates will also be to confidently handle the enteral machines and associated tubing and be able to confidentially administer feed and medication.


Duration

This course lasts approximately 4 hours.


Certification

Delegates will be issued with certificates of compliance valid for a period of 2 year. Nurses can evidence 4 hours of participatory learning for their NMC Revalidation.


Workplace competency certificates can be issued providing observation, assessment and evidence is demonstrated and received within 6 months of delegates attending the course – If you require any assistance on this please give us a call.


Please note...

This training course is only available to employers (NHS Trusts, CCG's, Care Providers, Independent Hospitals) that are able to provide onsite training facilities for groups of 4 - 12 delegates per training session.
