Level 2 Accredited Dementia and challenging behaviours that cause distress for the person.

Endeavour Care Training
Delivery Method: Face-to-face

Before understanding challenging behaviours that cause distress in the person with dementia.

Answer the following questions?

If you were unable to communicate a need or want to someone because you have a disease that affects how you communicate.

What would you do if you could not find the words or meaning to what you are communicating?

How would you communicate? Would you shout? Would you use body language? Would you throw an object?

What would be your response or reaction if your communication was misunderstood?

Would you get upset? Frustrated? Angry? Aggressive and if so would you be labled challenging?

Often we look at behaviour as a challenge to us often causing frustration, misunderstanding and dismay rather than look at the reasons for the distress,

You can ask some key questions to ascertain the cause of the behaviour.

Suggested questions you could ask as the detective are.

  • Is this a new behaviour?
  • Does the behaviour pose danger for the resident or others?
  • Whom is it really a problem for? (Resident? Staff? Family?)
  • Look at each behaviour as a separate challenge.
  • When did the behaviour start?
  • Is the behaviour an expression of other illness?

By booking this interactive and informative course your staff will be able to recognise cues and triggers, also be able to assess the situation,
