Exploring the role of drugs within society, how people change and the routes to recovery; this comprehensive overview will develop or refresh your confidence to work with drug and alcohol users.

Course aim:

  • To develop the groups understanding of critical issues in working with drug use and addiction.

Course objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Understand the context of drug use
  • Describe the key concepts of dependency and addiction
  • Understand the philosophy of harm reduction
  • Identify the client’s readiness for change
  • Assess the clients needs and make appropriate referral/interventions

Maximum group size: 16 people

Target audience:

This course is applicable to practitioners supporting drug users.
