Practical Epipen, Jext & Emerade training & competence

Please note that if you work directly with children (in schools, early years and other community settings) - you will need to practice the effective use of adrenaline auto injectors (e.g., Emerade, Epipen and Jext), as well as performing the recovery position. You may be able to practice in your own setting and be signed off by your supervisor or line manager.

What is anaphylaxis?

"Anaphylaxis is a potentially severe allergic reaction which attacks the immune system. Your whole body is affected, usually within minutes of contact with an allergen but sometimes the reaction can take place hours later. In serious cases can also lead to death"

Why is anaphylaxis training for schools & early years important?

All those who deal with children in nurseries, schools, sports clubs and other community setting should complete paediatric anaphylaxis awareness training. Staff who work with children should be able to confidently identify serious allergic reactions, administer adrenaline treatment (using adrenaline auto-injectors such as Epipen, Jext and Emerade), know when to call for help and administer effective CPR where required.

Do I need to do separate 'Epipen training'?

All staff who work with children should also be assessed for safe use of Epipen, Jext and Emerade adrenaline injectors. Some may refer to this as 'Epipen training' - however, you should also be familiar with Jext and Emerade because they work the same as Epipen.
