Understanding Mental Health in Primary Care

A brand-new course from M&K in recognition of the fact that 10% of the population will at any one time be experiencing clinical symptoms of depression and others struggling with anxiety or other common mental health conditions.

Improving the way in which we communicate with and listen to our patients improves outcomes, not only for them, but also for us (Borg. S, 2017). Caring for our own mental health as healthcare practitioners brings dividends to our patients and to ourselves.

The course will be attended by Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Allied Health Professionals.

Depression as a feature of other pervasive conditions

Anxiety and phobias

Helpful listening

Resilience in Clinical Practice

Positive Mental Health The Promotion of Positive Mental Health (tools for yourself and others!)

Course Aims and Outcomes

To enhance knowledge of common mental health difficulties and their diagnosis and treatment

To enhance listening and communication skills

To introduce the concepts of positive mental health, resilience, and positive mental health promotion.
