Meeting Needs and Reducing Distress

This one day practical and interactive course aims to help staff to understand, manage and prevent conflict caused by individuals who display challenging behaviours in the workplace. This course is designed to help staff to gain skills and confidence as well as build their resilience in coping with such behaviours which are being increasingly seen in care settings.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognise the range of circumstances and people they work with who may have additional needs that may increase distress and agitation.
  • To understand the person centred care approach.
  • To develop knowledge and skills in personal safety and verbal de-escalation.
  • To gain knowledge and confidence in raising concerns in an emergency situation.
  • To demonstrate confidence in using proactive and not reactive solutions when challenged by circumstances and people's behaviours.
  • To be aware of the legal frameworks in which restraint maybe safely used as a last resort.
  • The role of post incident de-briefs.
