Practical Competencies in Medicines Administration (PCMA®) Care Homes - Full Day

This full-day version of our main foundation workshop in Medicines Administration (Safe Handling of Medicines) is used by 14 local authorities across the UK. It covers the requirements set out by:

  • The Care Certificate
  • NICE guidelines
  • The Care Quality Commission

This is a practical face-to-face workshop, accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and delivered by an experienced pharmacist or nurse. It is the workshop that has been shown to reduce medication errors by 36%.

This version is specific for care homes and supported living providers who use pharmacy printed medicines charts and either original packs, and/or single monitored dosage systems (MDS). We have other versions of this course for other care settings (e.g. home care, day services).

Learners have their competence assessed to select and record medicines administered using three simulated medicines rounds (before, during and after the workshop). Any who fail are referred to take our Virtual Medicines Round online competence assessment.

Each learner is provided with a full colour 128-page workbook covering the learning outcomes in Unit 3047 "Support the Use of Medication in Social Care Settings" click here to see sample pages. This workbook comes with an e-learning module that can be sat after the workshop. We also have a smaller 32-page version of this workbook for organisations will more limited budgets.
