Medicines Administration - Train the Trainers (Certified Instructors 3-day Programme)

The Medication Training Company
Delivery Method: Face-to-face

This is our 3-day Certified Instructors Program (Train the Trainers) in Medicines Administration.

This program provides a much more comprehensive program of support than other courses in the market. It provides you with the skills, materials, knowledge and competencies to teach the administration of medicines. This 3-day program is delivered by John Greene – our most senior pharmacist trainer, author of 4 books on managing medicines in social care settings and a nationally recognised expery in his field.

Attend the course to gather ideas for your own course delivery, or take away the materials to deliver/adapt our PCMA® (Practical Competencies in Medicines Administration) half or full-day practical workshop.

The course that you will be certified to deliver (PCMA®)

Our PCMA® half and full-day practical workshops are accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. They teach and assess how to select, administer, and record medication safely.

The course is used by 14 councils and several large care providers across the UK and has been shown to reduce medication errors by 36% (source: Hampshire County Council).

‘Simulated Medicines Rounds’ assess competence at key points during the day. There is a half-day and full-day version of this program which teaches how to administer oral liquids, creams and ointments, inhalers and eye drops.

As one of our certified instructors, you will benefit from:

Certification of learners

After training, you email us the assessment results which we use to generate certificates for you. We keep a copy of each certificate in case any learners misplace theirs.

Ongoing professional support

Our professional instructor team is available Monday to Friday to offer advice on a variety of professional matters such as: training issues, answering medicines-related queries, giving advice before and after CQC inspections.

Training updates

Keep up to date on critical issues, legislation, latest best practice in medicines management, and continuing professional development with email updates from our training team.

Course outline:

Pre-study: Before the course, you’ll study our Distance Learning Course: Support the Use of Medication in Social Care Settings (course manual + online assessment) and our Virtual Medicines Round online competence assessment.

Day 1: PCMA Full day workshop. You will attend and experience the course you’ll be trained to deliver.

Day 2: Assessor’s Workshop. Building on the learning from day 1, we assess your competence to administer the medicines taught on day 1. You’ll then use these techniques to assess staff competence.

Day 3: Tailoring of materials and 1:1 support. On the last day, we work alongside you to make modifications to the slides and materials to ensure the course is tailored to your organisations medication charts and procedures. This is also another chance to ask questions and review any elements from days 1 and 2 again.
