End Point Assessment

Under the new apprenticeship standards that have been introduced by the government, all apprentices must pass an end-point assessment to successfully complete their apprenticeship. The employer and training provider will determine the apprentice is ready for end-point assessment. This is part of the decision-making process, known as ‘gateway’.

End-point assessments must be conducted by a government-approved end-point assessment organisation and, as part of this process, the apprentice will be formally evaluated on their knowledge, skills and behaviour. Once this process is completed, the apprentice will be issued with their apprenticeship certification.

The manner in which the end-point assessment is conducted is determined by the trailblazer group that has been responsible for developing the apprenticeship standard. The group for each standard will determine the way in which the assessment takes place. This can include examinations, assignments, interviews and observations at work.
