Adult Basic Life Support CPR Train the Trainer Course Online Level 3 + Trainer Pack - Training Materials & Assessments

Our adult basic life support + cardiopulmonary resuscitation train the trainer materials were developed by experienced healthcare professionals who have worked in various sectors including NHS Trusts, private hospitals, ambulance services, social care sector and UK universities.

All our basic life support trainer packs were developed in line with the latest Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that were published in October 2015. By using our CPR training materials, health and social care organisations will meet compliance requirements of the Care Certificate Standard 12 and Care Quality Commission (CQC) key lines of enquiry (KLOEs) relating to safety. This BLS & CPR trainer pack is also aligned to the Skills for Health UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF).

Overview

  • Course duration: Self guided learning - (depended on your previous education and experience)
  • Entry requirements: Dependent on the tutor's background/experience, previous education and local organisational policy (click here to see standard trainer requirements)
  • Practical entry requirements: Tutor should be certified to deliver both theoretical and practical learning outcomes as stated in the Skills for Health UK CSTF and the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.
  • Accredited award: On successful completion of course and assessment, trainer will be able to deliver basic life support training at Level 1 and Level 2.
  • Accredited certification: Certificate issued on successful completion of course materials and online competence assessment (certificate valid for 2 years). (click here to see standard trainer requirements)
  • Support: Tutor will continue to receive support via our online learning portal and email updates for 2 years. A refresher course should be completed after 2 years.
  • What's included in the trainer pack?: All the training materials you need to successfully run basic life support training sessions at level 1 and Level 2 (see full list below)

Adult BLS train the trainer course learning outcomes

Level 1

The learner will:

  • a) be able to recognise cardiorespiratory arrest
  • b) know how to summon immediate emergency help in accordance with local protocols
  • c) be able to start CPR using chest compressions.

Level 2 – Adult Basic Life Support (Level 1 outcomes plus the following)

The learner will:

  • a) understand current legislation and local resuscitation policies and procedures
  • b) know how to recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration, escalating care in accordance with local policy
  • c) be able to initiate an appropriate emergency response, which may include management of choking, and the use of the recovery position, all in accordance with current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
  • d) be able to initiate and maintain effective chest compressions in accordance with current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
  • e) be able to provide basic airway management i.e. ensure an open airway
  • f) be able to initiate and maintain effective lung ventilations in accordance with current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines
  • g) know how an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can be operated safely and appropriately
  • h) understand their individual role and responsibilities in responding to persons in emergency situations
  • i) understand their individual responsibilities in reporting and recording details of an emergency event accurately
  • j) understand the importance of undertaking any resuscitation interventions within the limits of their personal capabilities and context of any previous training received
  • k) know how they should apply the local Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Policy within clinical context.

Level 3 – Adult Immediate Life Support (Levels 1 & 2 outcomes plus the following)

The learner will:

  • a) be able to recognise the seriously ill adult and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest
  • b) understand and be able to apply the ABCDE approach
  • c) know how to manage and co-ordinate roles and responsibilities within the team in responding to emergency situations until the arrival of a resuscitation team or more experienced assistance
  • d) be able to participate as a member of the resuscitation team
  • e) be able to provide initial post resuscitation care until the arrival of the resuscitation team or more experienced assistance

    Entry requirements for basic life support trainers

    Trainers/assessors who deliver basic life support training should have adequate knowledge of basic life support/resuscitation, regulatory guidance and recommended practice. It is also highly recommended that all basic life support/resuscitation trainers should be holders of an Ofqual awarded accredited Level 3 certificate where their presentation and teaching skills have been assessed (for example, a train the trainer certificate, first aid instructor course, AET, PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS Certificate, or Cert Ed/other relevant/equivalent qualifications.

    Registered nurses who are currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) can also deliver basic life support training at Level 1 (following appropriate assessments and having adequate knowledge of the subject).

    What is covered in this BLS trainer pack?

    The registered trainer will be able to deliver resuscitation training covering the following:

    • Knowing what action should be taken in the event of an emergency occurring at work
    • Has been taught and practised cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods
    • Has been taught and practised dealing with an unconscious casualty
    • Has been taught and practised with regard to correct AED use
    • Knowing the correct actions to take with regard to control of wounds and bleeding
    • Knowing the action to take on a range of other first aid situations
    • Knowing how first aid stocks should be maintained and the contents of boxes
