Independent Study (AHP)

University of the West of England, Bristol
Delivery Method: Face-to-face

This course is offered at Level 3 (Degree) and Masters level and is delivered at our Glenside Campus.

Course content:

Specific course content is negotiated with a member of the academic staff and will vary as a function of the identified area of practice for exploration. On successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Engage in critical discussion on a range of theories related to the knowledge base of an aspect of practice identified for exploration
  • Articulate a consistent theoretical position in which to locate ideas and/or views related to the identified aspect of practice
  • Critically engage with debates in relation to ways in which your own practice can be enhanced, improved, or maintained and demonstrate ways in which this might be generalised to the benefit of the client/patient group
  • Evaluate your own practice.

Delivery:

Study time includes approximately 8 contact hours of tutorials between you and your project supervisor, which can be face to face, via Skype (or similar) or telephone contact. There will be an initial meeting to identify project goals, develop a learning contract and arrange periodic tutorials to feedback on progress, discuss the material under review and to plan the assignment. Later sessions might include feedback on sections of writing and specific guidance on style and structure as well as content.

Funding may be available to support your learning. Please contact your Trust Education Lead. If you work in the Private, Independent and Voluntary Sector please contact your employer who will advise you.
