This one day course aims for participants to be able to 'stand in the shoes' of someone with dementia and gain an insight into their lives, as well as understanding the definition and prevalence of dementia and the impact on daily living.

Objectives/Aims of Course

To promote an awareness of dementia, the main causes and how individuals can live well with a diagnosis of dementia.
Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of person-centred care and living well with dementia and develop the skills to communicate effectively with people with dementia.

  • Dementia with Lewy Bodies
  • Fronto Temporal Dementia
  • Posterior Cortical Dementia

  • Living well with a diagnosis

Course Deliverables

This course will provide a certificate of Training for Dementia Awareness and be delivered generally in line with Tier 1 of Health Education England’s “Core Skills Education and Training Framework”, for Dementia.
Content will also provide knowledge towards the City and Guilds Dementia units and also the knowledge requirements for the Care Certificates standard 9.

Who Should Attend (including pre-requisites)

All staff completing the Care Certificate and anyone who wishes to gain an awareness of Dementia.
