This course considers the different forms of hazardous substances, how they might enter the body and the effects of exposure. It will help learners to better understand Safety Data Sheets and other labelling and packaging advice, to protect themselves and employees around them.
Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, employers need to either prevent or reduce their workers’ exposure to substances that are hazardous to their health. It is an employer’s duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other people who might be affected by their business. Employers must do whatever is reasonably practicle to achieve this.

1. The law relating to hazardous substances and understanding the rules relating to COSHH.
2. Different types of hazardous substances and how risk assessments contribute to the safe use of hazardous substances in the workplace.
3. The labelling and packaging of hazardous substances and understanding the types of information that should be referred to for the safe identification and use of hazardous substances.
4. COSHH risk assessment, including understanding the precautions and procedures for working with hazardous substances. .
