Delivery Method: Face-to-face The Essential Oral Care training will equip your care home with the tools for being CQC compliant in oral care as well as carers being more confident in delivering oral care.
The training will raise awareness of the importance of daily mouth care and for practical advice for those people that are dependent or need assistance in oral care. Provide carers with the knowledge and ability to plan and deliver daily mouth care within care homes. Included in the sessions is oral care and dementia (challenging behaviour), palliative/end of life oral care.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify basic dental anatomy
- Carry out Mouth Care Assessments for residents in care homes and outline Mouth Care Policy in accordance with NICE Guidelines and CQC recommendations
- Create oral care plans for all residents
- Outline the potential effects of poor oral health on an individual's general health and well-being
- Daily Mouth Care for all residents to include dependent and medically compromised residents
- Dysphagia, dementia, Nil by mouth, palliative care.
- Recognize dry mouth and other oral conditions and its management
- Outline recommended denture care procedure
- Dementia and Oral Care - To discuss coping strategies for people that are more challenging with daily oral care.
