AIM
To raise awareness of the importance of daily mouth care and for practical advice for those people that are dependent or need assistance in oral care techniques. Provide carers with the knowledge and ability to plan and deliver daily mouth care within care homes and domiciliary care. This course gives a multi-level care guide to oral care.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Have a better understanding of how to assist people with learning disabilities in carrying out basic daily oral hygiene procedue.
- Have a better understanding on the prevention of oral diseases and the maintenance of good oral health to include dietary recommendations that are in line with healthy eating policies
- Recognize the need for specialized mouth care and supporting people who require assistanceBe able to identify the links between poor oral health and the effects on the body
- Be able to outline the NICE Guidelines and Quality Standards and what this means for you so that you are better prepared for CQC
- Be able to carry out an Oral Health Assessment
- Create oral care plans for all residents
- Acknowledge coping strategies for residents with challenging behaviour towards mouth care
- Provide Daily Mouth Care for highly dependent and medically compromised People with disabilities
- Design and implement Mouth Care Policy in accordance with NICE Guidelines and CQC recommendations
