What's covered on the day?

This course is designed to provide learners with an introduction to nutrition and how to support service users to choose meals and assist them to eat and drink. Learners will look at how food and drink affects the body and general health and well-being. It will allow learners to gather ideas about how to make changes to nutrition and hydration to support individuals will illness, as well as how key minerals and vitamins are required to support healing. The course will also give a brief overview of malnutrition and what affects this can have on a person.

Assessment

Learners will complete a knowledge assessment at the end of the course, allowing them to demonstrate their understanding and application of knowledge to practice and practice related scenarios.

  • Define the term nutrition
  • Describe the key factors when looking at nutrition within the older population
  • Discuss what factors can lead to malnutrition and apply them to practice related scenarios
  • Describe the screening tools available and how to use these within an assessment
