What's covered on the day?

This session will cover key knowledge on a range of common conditions that older people are likely to experience. It will discuss the signs and symptoms of diseases and how they can be recognised, it will also allow the learners to discuss how to care and support for individuals who have these conditions.

Assessment

Learners will complete a knowledge assessment at the end of the course, allowing them to evidence their understanding of the learning materials and the subject matter. Learners can include this in their portfolio of Continuing Professional Development along with their certificate of attendance.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the physiological and psychological changes in older people
  • Gain an awareness of chronic diseases in older people, including; Depression, Coronary Heart Disease, Osteoarthritis, Stroke, Osteoporosis, Diabetes, Hearing Loss, Vision Problems, COPD, Dementia
  • Understand the importance of health promotion activities in older people
  • Complete a knowledge assessment to demonstrate understanding
