The Care Quality Commission expect you to have a certain level of knowledge about the medicines you administer or support a person with. As well as knowing where to go for reliable information about medicines, you should also know about those medicines that carry a higher risk to the people you support.

This half-day face-to-face course will teach you about these higher-risk medicines: what problems to look out for, which medicines place a person at risk following an accident or fall, and what action to take.

Suitable for:

All experience levels, from support workers to registered nurses

CQC KLOE S4 (Proper and safe use of medicines)

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe where to go for reliable medicines information
  • Identify which medicines carry an increased risk of serious adverse events in individuals you support (so called “higher-risk medicines”)
  • Describe changes to an individual that may indicate adverse events to medicines in this higher risk list and what action to take
  • Describe those medicines that can place a person at risk following an accident or incident

We will study the following medicines:

  • Anti-clotting agents: anti-coagulants and anti-platelets
  • Cardiac (heart) drugs
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Anti-epileptic drugs
  • Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (including methotrexate)
  • Anxiolytic and sedative medicines

Face to face workshop: £600 per workshop (maximum 16 people) delivered at your own venue
