Delivery Method: Face-to-face This course is aimed at anyone who is at risk of physical assault in the workplace. Such as: -
- Healthcare Professionals
- Lone Workers
- Teachers / School Staff
It will provide staff with the skills necessary to break away from a
potentially aggressive situation, where de-escalation techniques have
failed and physical assault may be imminent.
Course Content
- Relevant legislation + legal frameworks
- Defining Reasonable Force
- Causes + build-up of an attack
- Warning + danger signs
- Challenging behaviour
- Trigger identification
- Situational awareness
- Defensive body positioning + personal space
- Verbal de-escalation + communication skills
- Actions to avoid being restrained or attacked
- Safely disengage from wrist grabs, body grabs, hair / clothing grabs + strangulation
- Avoid + defend kicks / punches
- Post incident actions
- Record keeping + de-briefing
Objectives
On completion of the course, delegates will be able to: -
- Identify types of common assault
- Understand what factors would escalate to physical aggression + assault
- Use verbal de-escalation techniques effectively
- Understand the importance of non-verbal communication
- Undertake a Dynamic Risk Assessment
- Demonstrate a Practice Observation + review breakaway disengagements
- Understand the importance of documenting + reporting all incidents
