Medicines Administration (with simulated competencies)

Delivery Method: Face-to-face A 2 day intensive course designed and developed in conjunction with Bristol Care Homes, aimed at Nursing / Care Home carers who are new to medicines management and administration.
During this 2-day intensive workshop, we assess your competence at administering: tablets and capsules, oral liquids, topical medicines, inhalers and eye drops using a structured assessment checklist.
DAY 1
You will attend our Accredited Practical Workshop in Medicines Administration where you will learn:
- What documentation and support plans do service users require to ensure medicines are given in a person-centred way.
- How to ensure medicines are given at the correct times
- Signposting to useful resources
- Mixed monitored dosage system (MDS)?
- How should you record medicines given from original packs?
- Pharmacy labelling
- How to check once opened dates and expiry dates
- 7 rights of administering medication
- Administering oral liquids
- Administering topical items
- Administering inhalers
- Eye drop instillation
DAY 2
- State the regulatory requirements for assessing staff competence to administer medication
- Procedure for dealing with medication errors
- Demonstrate how to administer tablets and capsules
- Demonstrate how to administer oral liquids
- Demonstrate how to administer topical items
- Demonstrate how to administer inhalers
- Demonstrate how to administer eye drops
You will be assessed at administering the above items by the trainer
