Course 5 - Dementia - Interventions for Cognitive and Non-Cognitive

This online Dementia: Interventions for Cognitive and Non-Cognitive course is ideal for staff, in the care environment, working with people suffering from dementia. This e-learning course has been designed to help learners understand the skills and knowledge important for working within Health and Social Care settings.

This module on Dementia has been designed to help you understand the clinical guidelines for managing dementia, interventions for cognitive symptoms, interventions for comorbid emotional disorders, palliative care issues and drug treatments.

Course 6 - Stand By Me - Dementia

THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE COURSE
Improve communication and care for people with dementia across the patient journey, from pre-diagnosis through to care at home, emergency care, hospital admission, care home admission and end of life care.The course incorporates six video dramatisations across different settings. Learners can follow Maggie and Mick as Maggie receives a diagnosis of dementia, gets help at home and moves into a residential care home. They can then follow Marty and Mary, and Marty’s family, as he receives emergency medical care, stays on an acute hospital ward and nears the end of his life.
Each of the video dramatisations is embedded in a set of reflective questions based on the VIPS Framework, giving the learners the opportunity to reflect on their own practice, the challenges they face in their roles and the practice within their organisations.
Additional video content is included from professionals across a range of health and social care settings, and from families of people living with dementia. It includes detailed factual information on personcentred care, the nature and different types of dementia and the different ways the symptoms of dementia can be managed

An understanding of how to support people with dementia by developing good communication and person-centred care in their own practice and within their teams and organisations.

Course 7 - Dementia Care Practice Level 3

When a person with dementia finds that their mental abilities are declining, they often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance, care and support. Carers need to do everything they can to help the person with dementia to retain their sense of identity and feelings of self-worth.
Caring for a person with dementia can be challenging and requires a high level of skills and knowledge to cope with all the problems the dementia sufferer may face. This course is designed to provide you with the level of knowledge and understanding required to ensure you are able to deliver the highest possible standards of care.

  • Dementia: Causes, Symptoms and Diagnosis
    • Define dementia, explain the causes and how it affects the brain
    • Identify the symptoms of and diagnosis for dementia
  • Dementia: Treatment and Legal Issues
    • Explain the range of treatments and approaches available for people with dementia
    • Define the law in relation to dementia sufferers and explain the principles of recording, data protection and confidentiality
  • Care Planning for and Problems of the Dementia Sufferer
    • Identify the key features of PCCP and be able to construct a person-centred care plan
    • Explain the main problems faced by people with dementia
  • Caring for Dementia Sufferers
    • Identify key aspects of the physical care and support required by dementia sufferers
    • Identify key aspects of the psychological and emotional care and support required by dementia sufferers

CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of each module you will be required to complete an online assessment. If you pass the assessment the system will automatically allow you to print or save a copy of your accredited certificate. If you fail you will be allowed to resit the exams again.
