The Level 2 Award in Dementia Awareness enables healthcare support workers and adult social care workers to understand dementia and help improve the quality of life for people living with a dementia.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of this course learners will

• Understand what dementia is
• Understand key features of the theoretical models of dementia
• Know the most common types of dementia and their causes
• Understand factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia

Course syllabus:

• The term 'Dementia', common types and prealence types
• Risk factors, Younger onset, Diagnosis, signs and symptoms including delirium and dementia
• Key functions of the brain that are affeced by dementia including memory
• Psychological needs and models of dementia
• Enviromental factor and disability
• Communication, attitudes and managing behaviours
• Legislation, standards and guidace
