The Level 2 Award in Epilepsy Emergency Medication Awareness gives healthcare support workers and adult social care workers the basic knowledge of epilepsy, the management of seizures and the use of emergency medication.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of the course learners will be able to

  • List the causes and types of epilepsy
  • Describe the general management of seizures
  • Describe the use of Diazepam
  • Explain how you would deal with errors in administration
  • Describe the use of Midazolam
  • Explain the use of support plans and risk assessment

Course syllabus:

  • Epilepsy - diagnosis, causes, NEAD, threshold, triggers
  • Seizure classifications
  • General Management, Status Epilepticus, SUCEP, Medication, VNS, Seizure management plan, Seizure diary
  • Midazolam – use, buccal space, indications, benefits, administration, practical measuring of liquid, contraindications, side effects, overdose, storage and disposal
  • Diazepam – use, indications, benefits, administration, practical application, contraindications, side effects, overdose, storage and disposal

Certificate title: Level 2 Award in Epilepsy Emergency Medication Awareness

Certificate validity: 3 years
