The Level 2 Specialist Award in HIV Awareness provides Participants with an understanding of HIV and an awareness of its prevalence in today's society as well as its progression, attitudes towards HIV and its impact on the individual. Participants will gain an understanding of how they can reduce risk and give treatment, care and support to people who are living with HIV.
At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.
By the end of this course learners will:
- Explain what HIV is and its impacts
- Identify how sexual health and sexuality relate to HIV
- Explain and describe current facts and figures relating to HIV
- Explain the transmission and progression of HIV
- Identify and dispel myths surrounding the condition
- Identify and follow practices for preventing and reducing HIV infection risk
- Explain and describe current treatments and how they work
- Identify potential care and support needs
- Identify attitudes towards HIV / AIDs and their impacts
Course syllabus:
- HIV: what is HIV, the stigma and myths that surround HIV
- Transmission of HIV routes of infection and safety awareness
- Global statistics and projected forecast of the spread of HIV
- Medication for HIV and how it works and its progression.
- Case study- Choose 1 client group and think of all the ways they can seek, gain, have support
- Overview of AIDS
- Assessment
