The Level 2 Award in Managing Behaviours that Challange is to help healthcare support workers and adult social care workers to understand the techniques that will enable them to recognise and diffuse challenging behaviour, thus avoiding situations of potential violence.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of this course learners will be able to

  • Define challenging behaviour, its causes and forms
  • Discuss and practice the communication skills required to diffuse challenging behaviour
  • Recognise when we might be at risk if situations escalate
  • Describe how to avoid danger and recognise your limits of practic

Course syllabus:

  • What are behaviours that challenge and why do they occur? Why individuals exhibit behaviour that challenges
  • Different stages of behaviour, how behaviour is assessed, behaviours that we find challenging and how to support them
  • The role of medication in managing behaviour that challenges
  • The role of communication plays in managing behaviour that challenges
  • Functions of behaviour and strategies to manage it
  • Restrictive interventions
