The Level 2 Award in Mental Capacity Act Awareness (inc DoLS) provides healthcare support workers and adult social care workers with an overview of the Mental Capacity Act, to ensure they have the knowledge and skill to deal with situations relating to mental capacity.
At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.
By the end of this course learners will:
- List the functions of the Mental Capacity Act
- Describe the groups that will be affected by it
- Explain the functional test
- Explain the Lasting Power of Attorney
- Describe the function of the Court of Protection
- Explain the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
Course syllabus:
- What are the Mental Capacity Act and the Code of Practice and why do we need them? Who might be affected by the Act?
- The 5 key principles of the Mental Capacity Act
- Assessing mental capacity, best interests and recording. Planning ahead
- Adult protection, recognizing restraint ad the need for consent
- The deprivation of liberty
