The Level 2 Award in Moving and Assisting ensures that healthcare support workers and adult social care workers recognise the principles of safe moving and assisting and the importance of risk assessment prior to any moving and assisting task.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of this course learners will be able to

  • Have an understanding of legislation relating to moving and assisting
  • Understand basic anatomy and physiology of the spine
  • Assess moving and assisting operations, reducing the risk where reasonably practicable
  • Understand the principles of safer moving and assisting of people, including the use of equipment
  • Understand the importance of maintaining dignity for the person receiving assistance

Course syllabus:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Legislation, policy and responsibilities
  • Risk assessment, ergonomics and person handling plans, personal safety, principles of safer moving and handling, communication, team work, participation, person centered approaches, advice and assistance and recording
  • Practical exercises, including:
    • Efficient movement principles
    • Lifting inanimate objects
    • Communication
    • Walking techniques
    • Chair work
    • Wheelchairs
  • Course conclusion and completion of ‘Manual Handling/Moving, Assisting and Hoisting – Record of Practical Activity’

Certificate title: Level 2 Award in Moving and Assisting

Certificate validity: 3 years
