The Level 3 Award in Medical Emergencies for Dental Practices provides learners with the knowledge, skills and expertise to deliver relevant emergency first aid to patients and staff within Dental Practices.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Describe your actions in an emergency
  • Demonstrate adult resuscitation including use of the AED and Oxygen Therapy
  • Explain the management of adult choking
  • Demonstrate the management of the unresponsive casualty
  • Understand how to recognise and treat bleeding and shock
  • Understand how to recognise and treat anaphylactic shock
  • Explain the treatment of common medical emergencies, such as chest pain, airway and breathing problems, seizures, fainting and blood sugar emergencies

Course syllabus:

  • Dealing with an emergency
  • Role of the first aider
    • Cross infection
    • Recording incidents and actions
    • Use of available equipment/drugs
  • Primary survey
  • Management of an unresponsive casualty, practical - recovery position
  • Resuscitation
    • Use of AED/Oxygen Therapy
    • Practical resuscitation and use of AED by candidates
  • Choking
  • Shock
  • Bleeding of wounds & practical use of dressings and slings - including treatment of shock
  • Chest pain - heart attack and angina
  • Seizures
  • Airway & breathing problems, including asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Fainting
  • Blood Sugar Emergencies - Hypo and Hyperglycaemia

Certificate validity: 3 years
