To enable healthcare support workers and adult social care workers to understand the importance of food safety, including hygiene, in the preparation and handling of food and the importance of nutrition and hydration in maintaining health and wellbeing.

At First Response Training we can provide face-to-face, classroom-based courses inhouse at your premises or venue of your choice, open courses at our public venues and a range of e-learning, distance learning and webinar courses, as well as blended learning solutions.

By the end of this course learners will:

  • Understand the importance of food safety and food hygiene
  • Understand food safety hazards and good hygiene
  • Understand the importance of temperatures and storage
  • Explain good hydration and nutrition including digestion
  • Understand what constitutes a balanced diet
  • Know the effects of poor nutrition
  • Explain how to promote good and sufficient nutrition and hydration and the importance of the environment in healthy eating
  • To explore how dignity can be maintained while promoting nutrition and healthy eating

Course syllabus:

  • Food safety, including hygiene, in the preparation and handling of food
  • The role of good nutrition and hydration in maintaining health and wellbeing
  • Signs and symptoms of poor nutrition and hydration
  • Digestive system
  • Poor nutrition and hydration
  • Resolving difficulties with intake
  • Good nutritional intake
  • Promoting a person-centred approach

Certificate title: Level 2 Award in Food Safety, Nutrition and Hydration

Certificate validity: 3 years
