Safe sleep positions in pregnancy

Research indicates that sleep position in pregnancy may have an impact on the health of mother and baby, not least on the risk of late stillbirth1. This review highlights some of the evidence around this issue and looks at one strategy that may help reduce the risk. It also considers pelvic girdle pain and whether sleep position may have a role to play in alleviating it.2

  • Understand what women can do that might help reduce the risk of stillbirth.
  • Be aware of the main signs and symptoms, and the management of pelvic girdle pain associated with pregnancy.
