Although oral health is improving across the UK, tooth decay still affects far too many children.1 In England, almost a quarter (23.3%) of children under 5 years have obvious decay, and for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland the figures are even worse (28.9%, 35.4% and 40%, respectively).1 Supporting parents to adopt protective oral health behaviours early in their children’s lives is critical to developing long-term oral health habits which reduce the risk of decay.
