Palliative Care

This course is designed to provide awareness for individual’s working in the health and social care sector, to work with patients with advanced progressive illness and to achieve the best quality of life for patients and their families.

Who should attend?

Healthcare workers, professionals and anyone working with patients who require support with psychological, social and spiritual needs, towards end of life care.

What you will learn

This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of key aspects to enable you to work with a holistic approach in achieving quality care towards end of life.

Course content

  • Affirm life and regard dying as a normal process
  • Provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms
  • Integrate the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care
  • Last offices; incorporating last wishes, cultural and religious beliefs.
     
  • Offer a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death
  • Offer a support system to help the family cope during the patient’s illness and in their own bereavement
  • Access a support system which helps healthcare staff cope in their own bereavement

 Course duration

Half day (three hours) Maximum number of 15 candidates. This course is taught at one of our venues or delivered onsite. 

Assessment and certification

This course is delivered by a qualified trainer. Candidates will be assessed continuously throughout the training and will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the course aims and objectives. Candidates will receive a certificate on successful completion and a workbook.
