Health care workers need to ensure that they are working in line with the equality and human rights framework implemented by their organisation in order to avoid being discriminative. The Health care sector is made up of an increasingly diverse society and need to be able to respond sensitively and in an appropriate manner to all concerns. Workers need to understand individual or group difference, treat people as individuals and create a fairer society. Eliminating discrimination and prejudice will help the healthcare sector deliver accessible, fair and healthier services. This course provides an understanding of diversity in our workplace environment and explains how our own attitudes, values and actions can have an impact on others.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course the learner will:
  • Understand how a proactive inclusive approach to equality and diversity and human rights can be promoted
  • Understand the benefits that an effective approach to equality and diversity and human rights can affect society, organisations and individuals
  • Understand how legislation, organisational policies and processes can empower individuals to act appropriately and understand people's rights
  • Know how to treat everyone with dignity, courtesy and respect and value people as individuals
  • Know what to do if there are concerns about equality and diversity practices, including how to use any local whistle blowing policy procedures and other related policies such as Bullying at Work and Dignity at Work
